How to run a SQL Query with RMS

SQL queries can be an extremely useful tool for managing your Microsoft RMS system.  They can allow you to update product or other data in mass and fetch obscure information from the system.  SQL queries can also be very dangerous - you're operating on your systems data without a net so use with care.  Always make a backup before making any updates and it might also be a good idea to preform major changes outside normal business hours.

To run a SQL query

1)  Go to Store Operations Administrator > File > Connect

2)  Enter enter your database password (this is NOT your RMS username and password) and click OK.  If the password was correct the window will disappear and on the lower bar it will show the server and database name you're connected to.  If it didn't work, you'll get an error.

If you don't know your database password talk to your system administrator for that information.

3)  Go to Query > New - type in your SQL query and then hit the green "play" icon or hit F5 to execute the query.

The results will appear.
